Highlands Trout Lesotho Mountain Challenge 2013
Highlands Trout is proud to announce the 2ndannual Highlands Trout Mountain Challenge marathon event at Katse Dam Lesotho, in association with Bruce Fordyce.
Imagine breathtaking scenery, vast blue skies and towering mountains reflected in crystal clear water. This is the Highlands Trout Mountain Challenge. This unique race is an ideal Comrades training run. At an altitude of 2000-2500 meters above sea level and with some long punishing hills, this marathon or half marathon could claim to be one of the toughest races in the World and the highest in Southern Africa.
But the testing course has its compensations; apart from the majestic surroundings runners will be able to experience the unique sensation of running across the highest dam wall in Southern Africa. They will be thrilled by seconding tables manned by local villagers all determined to show that their village’s hospitality is the warmest, and they will finally enjoy a post-race cruise across the dam to the prize giving in Katse village.
The Katse dam supplies the Gauteng with much of its fresh water via the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. Runners and non-runners alike can enjoy a fascinating tour of the dam wall as well as boating, fly fishing, pony trekking, great birding, and much more. This is a memorable experience for the whole family and a weekend away that every runner will want to repeat.
