Land Use Plan for the Liuwa Plain National Park, Zambia

Advance Africa have been appointed by African Parks to develop a land use plan for the Liuwa Plain National Park and its immediate surrounding regions, to assist with conservation planning and socio-economic development activities that are aligned with its conservation goals.

Integrated Catchment Basin Resource Management Plan for the Greater Liuwa Landscape, Zambia

Advance Africa developed an Integrated Resource Management Plan for the Liuwa Plain National Park and its broader landscape. The project identifed strategic pressure points within the broader landscape, and proposed mitigations as mechanisms to achieve proactive management and enterprise development outputs.

Socio-economic Development Strategy for the Greater Garamba Landscape, DRC

Advance Africa developed a Socio-Economic Development Strategy which assessed associated pressures of the Greater Garamba landscape.  This entailed a detailed inquiry of the context of three Hunting Domains adjacent to Garamba National Park and their pressures on local communities, including land tenure, livelihood activities and perceptions held towards park management. The strategy proposed risk mitigation measures in the form of key projects and enterprise development opportunities specific to identified regional linkages.

Biodiversity Management Unit, Lesotho: Environmental Component

Advance Africa has been commissioned by the Lesotho Highlands Development Agency to develop a Biodiversity Management Unit and mentor the unit for at least two years. The unit is responsible for monitoring and evaluation of water quality, integrated ecosystems management and the conservation of biodiversity in the catchments. The BMU has two sections, an aquatic systems section, overseeing water quality, and a biodiversity section that oversees the terrestrial, fisheries and aquaculture components.

Scoping Study of Small Scale Farmers, Katanga Province, DRC

The Farmers Assistance Programme is an MMG Kinsevere Mine initiative focused on increasing agricultural output within the local community through the improvement of harvest yields. Advance Africa was commissioned to compile a programme optimisation plan. The optimisation plan identified recommendations and interventions to Farmers Assistance Programme inputs and outputs. The approach to this was that the farmers in the programme be mapped on an updated base Geographic Information Systems (GIS) dataset and that all inputs and outputs are recorded in attribute data tables such that this data is easily available for presentations, reports, planning and management.

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Katanga Province, DRC

The Large Scale Farming Project (LSFP) will comprise of two main focus units.  Firstly, the development of a large scale commercial hub farm and secondly, the incorporation of subsistence farmers within the MMG Kinsevere area of influence. Advance Africa Impact undertook an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of the LSFP, which documented of all possible events which could result in an impact of a receptor, either positive or negative.
