Large Scale Farming Project
MMG Kinsevere Mine, Dem. Rep. of Congo
Advance Africa was contracted by MMG to assist in the formulate the development of a Large Scale Farming Project (LSFP) at MMG’s Kinsevere mining operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The project entailed developing sustainable methods of addressing critical food shortages in the Katanga province. A Due Diligence report outlined potential opportunities to improve food security in the mining communities, while incorporating existing agricultural projects and programs.
A Scoping Study defined the LSFP’s multiple strategic objectives, which included commercial and socio-economic aspects. This study refined findings, identified site options, investigated land tenure, and sustainable management strategies. Short-listed alternatives were assessed and selected for progression in a Feasibility Study.
Advance Africa’s environmental and agricultural management experience, together with MMG’s core approach of creating ‘sustained and improved futures for the local community’, is a prime example of unique solutions enabling development and investment in the country, extending beyond the primary benefits of the Kinsevere mine and beyond the life of the mine itself.
