Advance Africa were contracted by African Parks to develop a land use plan for the Liuwa Plain National Park in Zambia and its immediate surrounding regions, to assist with conservation planning and socio-economic development activities that are aligned with the organisation’s conservation goals.
The land use plan included an analysis of environmental seasonality, cultural aspects, wildlife movements, analysis of population dynamics, agricultural seasonality, accessibility and resource utilisation, and realistic documentation and incorporation of the above considerations into a land use plan that can be integrated into strategic as well as day-to-day management activities. Project tasks undertaken included GIS modelling and analysis, data collection, stakeholder engagement (from national government to community level), management and guidance for appointed project personnel, project management and report production.
