We were contracted by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) to conduct a scoping study and needs assessment to identify data sets and a suitable data platform for tracking AGRA’s performance under the 2023-2027 strategic plan.
Data platforms were comprehensively assessed in terms of their capability to integrate multiple data sets into a format that will serve the needs of AGRA, partners, focus governments and other stakeholders. The assessment focused on the platform's ability to meet AGRA’s strategic information needs; capacity gaps; and cost implications over a five-year period. The scoping study highlighted AGRA’s needs and requirements of the envisaged macro-context data platform. In addition to the outcomes of the scoping study, we provided examples of use cases related to AGRA’s Key Business Lines to assist in the development of the envisaged platform. AGRA’s four business lines include 1) Inclusive Markets and Trade, 2) Policy and State Capability 3) Seed Systems, and 4) Sustainable Farming.
Following the scoping study and identification of a suitable platform provider (the “selected firm or platform provider”), we supervised the selected firm in (i) developing a proposal for the data platform, based on AGRA’s needs as defined in the scoping study, (ii) undertaking an on-paper platform design, and (iii) demonstrating a pilot use case to serve as proof of concept for AGRA.
